This involves global export via multiple partnerships, access to a team of experts for local farmers and diverse contracting options over many delivery points. Our sector is seeking a:


Grain Trading Director   - Classe 10 (G5)



Locations: Montreal and Boucherville

Status: Permanent, full time.



This position is responsible for the development and commercial management of grain trading activities off shore within the Grain sector. This Includes commercial activities from/to non-Canadian origins/destinations, including determining offer prices, tracking executions costs, and determining margins. This position is responsible and accountable for the profitability of the trades done, always in compliance with Corporate, National and International Regulations. This position is responsible for the management, supervision and oversight of the trading and trade-execution teams. This position is accountable for the overall performance of the grain sector trading group, which includes Ocean and lakes freight chartering, and trade-executions.

  • Trade and oversee the trading, and trade-execution teams, setting procedures and guidelines for performance;
  • Guide the domestic merchandising teams of off shore values in order to aid in the determination of buying values and selling values domestically;
  • Develop export markets and customers;
  • Ensure constant monitoring of commodity market fluctuations worldwide identifying potential threats and/or opportunities for Canadian Grain and execute strategies for positioning and selling grain abroad;
  • Coordinate and determine the optimal use of the fleet and terminal capacity in order to maximize profitability and efficiencies;
  • Regular reporting of activities internally to management and externally to regulatory agencies and keep up to date on changing regulations domestically and internationally;
  • Constant monitoring of the overall grain position;
  • Determine MTM values for the determination of the P&L for the Trading group.

Frequent business travels worldwide.




  • You hold a University degree in Administration or in Agronomy or an equivalent academic background;
  • You have 7-10 years’ experience in the industry; notably in commodity trading and business development, are considered strong assets;
  • You are recognized for your effective cooperation, your prioritization skills;
  • You are agile, you have the ability to adapt to constant change;
  • You are capable of working responsibly with no or minimal supervision;
  • You are capable of analyzing world market and assessing risk prior to trading
  • You possess good knowledge of Incoterms, GAFTA, NGFA, NAEGA, FOSFA rules;
  • You have very good knowledge of Microsoft office 365 and common office systems
  • Bilingual (French and English) is necessary. Primary language required is English. Candidates that are not bilingual will be considered if committed to learning French within a year to a functional business level.
