Managing Director - Grain Sector - 


Work location:540-167 Lombard Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3B 0V3

Status : Permanent, Full Time,


Under the supervision of the Purchasing and Merchandising Director, this position is responsible for:

  • Developing and managing the Grain business in Western Canada through the execution of the commercial strategy and set operational policies. Includes domestic commercial activities, setting daily bid prices, determining margins and selling values;
  • Coordinating the whole process of grain merchandising while leading the commercial, logistical and trade-admin teams to ensure an efficient and effective operation;
  • Identifying and developing a supplier and customer base while creating opportunities to increase market share;
  • Promoting positive and efficient relationships with employees, suppliers and customers;
  • Identifying GAM grain strategies for positioning, buying and selling grain;
  • Managing the office team including any administrative and Human Resources responsibilities, always in compliance with Corporate, Provincial and Federal Regulations;
  • Securing margins with a constant monitoring of daily transaction and activities while staying informed of commodity market fluctuation;
  • Ensuring profitability of the regional grain merchandising while determining and justifying Mark to Market (MTM) values at month end for Profit & Loss (P&L) purposes in coordination with peers and supervisors;
  • Providing regular reporting of activities internally to management and externally to regulatory agencies; and
  • Contributing to the overall knowledge of the Grain team by sharing knowledge and information regularly.



  • You possess a post-secondary University degree in Agronomy, Finance and/or related fields along with ten to fifteen (10-15) years of related experience;
  • You have extensive experience with grain trade activities and logistics;
  • You are able to work under time constraints with peak workloads;
  • You have excellent communication skills and are known for your mobilizing leadership qualities;
  • You are a skilled negotiator, capable of developing and maintaining successful relationships with partners;
  • You show great attention to detail and have the ability to locate errors;
  • You have the ability to adapt to constant change;
  • You demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills while being an active team player; and
  • You are capable of being autonomous.
